Hotels

Product Description
Hotels offer all of the convenience of home without having to do the chores and tidying up yourself. Every hotel has a star rating based on the quality of service, amenities, dining options and overall customer satisfaction. 5 star hotels are the cream of the crop however the majority of holiday hotels are rated from 2 to 4. There are thousands of hotels available in the UK and even more in the popular holiday destinations abroad.

Main Players
Most hotels can be booked through the big holiday websites including Expedia and hotels.co.uk. Alternatively there are plenty of individual hotel chains with the most popular being Holiday Inn, Intercontinental, Best Western and Warner Leisure Hotels. Smaller privately owned hotels are often advertised on the numerous hotel websites on the net.

Pros of Hotels

  • Most hotels allow you to come and go as you please so you can enjoy your holiday to the full.
  • Because of the massive range of hotels within the UK and abroad there is always going to be at least one that has all of the amenities you’re looking for at a price you can afford.
  • All hotels have a maid service and most have room service, an associated restaurant and often a bar so that you don’t have to cook or clean during your holiday.
  • Out of season, a lot of hotels offer cheap weekend breaks just to fill the rooms. They also tend to offer free nights and upgrades during quiet weeks as well,

Cons of Hotels

  • Some smaller hotels only offer meals at set times which means if you’re not hungry when they’re serving you have to make other arrangements. They also might have some form of curfew.
  • The meals and drinks in some hotels can be expensive, especially if you’re a family and eat in every night of your holiday.
  • Some large hotels can get very busy during the peak holiday weeks. This is particularly true in family orientated hotels both in the UK and abroad.

Things to Consider when Choosing a Provider
There are lots of questions to ask when choosing your holiday hotel but some of the most important include what star rating is it, does it have en-suite facilities, are children welcome, is there an on-site restaurant, does it have any other facilities such as a gymnasium, a sauna or a swimming pool, how close is it to the attractions of the area, is the public transport system good, are there any restrictions with regards to meal times and coming in/going out, are any of the hotel facilities charged as extras, do they offer room service and do they have a complaints procedure should you need it.

You can probably think of hundreds of additional questions but these might help you to narrow down your search for a quality hotel in the first instance. You might also want to ask if they have any promotional deals on during the year as a lot of hotels fail to advertise their special offers to new or prospective customers.

BUYability Summary
Hotels are a great example of hassle-free holiday accommodation and because of the star rating there is something available to suit everybody’s budget. Booking a hotel room during the low season can save you up to 50% on the normal price which means if you choose your weeks carefully you can have multiple short holidays each year… and you won’t have to cook or clean up during any of them.
