Sharpen Up Your Buying Skills

Being a savvy buyer can save you pounds on even the cheapest items so it’s worthwhile learning the ropes and sharpening up your buying skills. There are plenty of ways to get a bargain while practicing your skills at the same time and below you’ll find a selection we find particularly useful.

Trawl the Internet for the best offers
The advent of the comparison website has meant that you can search multiple retailers in one easy click. Whether you are looking for household goods, electrical equipment, holidays, cars or utility providers you can just type in what you want and the website will do all the hard work. They will tell you where you can get your items from, how much they cost and any promotions or special offers that are currently available. It’s then down to you to choose the best one for you.

Check out the online auction sites
You can often get brand new items for pounds cheaper by buying them via the internet auctions, and especially through eBay. These sites allow you to bid a reasonable price for the items you’re interested in but the fact that most things are being auctioned means you have to have some degree of buying skill to secure the items you want. It’s all to easy to be outbid in the final seconds if you haven’t got your wits about you.

Haggle on the high street
Not many people have the bottle to haggle when they go to buy new items and a lot of stores frown on the idea as well. Some stores, and especially electrical goods stores, do expect their customers to haggle to a degree though. If you see something you like, such as a used car, a wide screen TV or a household appliance, offer to pay a price just lower than the ticket price in cash and you’ll take it away that day. Alternatively say you’re interested but not at the price shown…not unless you’re going to get a few freebies thrown in as well. In today’s economic climate a lot of stores will consider doing this to secure the sale as they still have sales targets to hit each month.

Make the most of promotions
Use promotions, special offers and discounts to your full advantage. If supermarkets are having promotions on non-edible goods that you use already then stock up on them while you can. Similarly if one of the supermarkets that offer loyalty points are having the same promotions as another of the supermarkets then shop at the one that offers loyalty points so you get more back in the long run. You should keep up-to-date with the various large supermarket offers as they can save you tens of pounds on your shopping bills each month.

You can easily practice all these methods without actually buying anything so that when the time comes to use them you’ll be as adept as you need to be. Being a skilled buyer can’t help but save you money and that’s what we all want to do at the end of the day.
